Born in Novi Sad, the capital of Vojvodina, Zoltan grew up in a family that was practicing cycling for a long time. His grandfather Tibor Tarjan starter riding and after him his son, Tibor jr., continued riding, too. Zoltan’s father is now his personal coach, but he was also the coach of the women national team a few years ago. His father and grandfather still ride sometimes but only for recreation.  His mother, Valeria Smidt, is a journalist and his stepmother, Eva Hatala,  was in the group of the best women riders than. She won a silver medal on the World Cup, and a lot of other and better medals everywhere around the world. Zoltan’s older brother, Laszlo, rode a few years too, but he is not riding races regular, maybe only sometimes like recreation. And Tamas, Zoltan’s younger brother is still young and goes to a Primary School.

 

However, Zoltan’s young childhood wasn’t easy, it wasn’t hard to get in the world of cycling and to start liking it. But before cycling, he has practiced a few other sports, such as football and athletic. And only because his father has practiced cycling and saw that Zoltan has all the predispositions for that sport and Zoltan also knew everything about cycling, Tibor guided him properly and he started to practice cycling.

 

  Until now, Zoltan has achieved very great results, though he is still an amateur. He is in the best group of riders in his country, and not only in his class than also in the higher classes. Until the end of the 2004 year he was riding for Juniors, but since 2005 he is riding as a driver U23 (Elite).

 

He practices for 4 or 5 hours a day, 7 days a week under supervision of coach Tibor Tarjan, his father. He is very lucky that he has the best coach and expert in Serbia and Montenegro. His father always supports him, and gives him professional advises. With his maximum attention, support and expertise Zoltan achieves better and better results. Although he knows that it won't be easy, because the next days, months and years require very hard practices, because it's the only way to achieve top results.
